History of the Valley Homeless Connection

In 1999 several human services agencies and organizations serving the jurisdictions of Augusta County and the cities of Waynesboro and Staunton created the Valley Continuum Partnership for the purpose of developing and administering a collaborative process to prevent homelessness within the Augusta County area. Shortly after this time Highland County, Rockbridge County and the city of Lexington joined the partnership thus expanding the service area. In 2013, this partnership became apart of the Virginia Balance of State Continuum of Care (BoS, CoC) and assumed Local Planning Group status and the name Valley Partnership Local Planning Group (LPG). In November 2018, the new name Valley Homeless Connection was adopted.

The purpose of the LPG is to assist in the coordination, development, and evaluation of services and housing for homeless and at-risk of homelessness persons with housing needs through planning, education and advocacy. It is a collaborative and inclusive community-based organization for planning and managing homeless assistance resources and services effectively and efficiently to end homelessness in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
